Early Amateur Stations

Cronan N6SE Station – William S. Cronan III, N6SE, TA-56, collected more WW II era radio gear than most of could dream about. Here you can see color photos of it all, with detailed annotations on every item.

Amateur Station, 1912, Complete with Bar

Loose Coupler – Xtal Receiver, 1912

Station GSA (DS Arnett, 1805-P), Greenville, Ohio, 1912 – 1913

GSA “One Gallon” Transmitter, 1912 – 1913

The photos that follow were sent to ARRL district manager and co-founder of Zenith radio, R.H.G. Mathews, 9ZN. Many contain early Chicago Radio Labs/Zenith equipment such as Mathew’s spark gap disk, the CRL Paragon, “Amplifigon”, etc. Many early hams were proud to show off their gear to this revered operator.

The following is a postcard simply addressed to “Robert G. Mathews, Chicago, Illinois”. Imagine that reaching him! The sender, Mr. Heacock, had quite a station as you can see. You can read more about this Oregon radio pioneer at this link.
