Charles L. Austin: Portland’s First Broadcaster

We recently came across a bunch of photos and newspaper clippings about early radio pioneer Charles L. Austin of Portland, Oregon. Although Austin was apparently not a member of SoWP, SoWP member Walter Baumgartner, 297-V, had forwarded this package of information to Bill Brenimen. Austin certainly personified the spirit of the Wireless Pioneers, as a very early amateur, “sparks”, and even radio manufacturer (Norco, the Northwestern Radio Manufacturing Co. of Portland). As someone who radio history should not forget, we decided to dedicate this page to the man and his achievements. Enjoy!
